BYOD data protection guide “screams” #DaaS | IT PRO

The UK’s information commissioner’s office (ICO) recently published #BYOD guidelines & the need for security & auditability.  This “screams” #cloud-based virtual desktop (DaaS).  Why #DaaS and not on-prem #VDI?  Not only cost & ease of evaluating/deploying/scaling but w/a true DaaS cloud platform, employees or outsourcers can’t access the CEO/CFO/VP of HR’s desktop.

“Employers must have adequate controls in place to make sure information [stored on mobile devices] is kept secure,” said Rice.

“The cost of introducing these controls can range from being relatively modest to quite significant, depending on the type of processing being considered, and might even be greater than the initial savings expected.

“Certainly the sum will pale into insignificance when you consider the reputational damage caused by a serious data breach. This is why organisations must act now,” he added.
