Channel Partners – JUL-AUG 2013 has a quick summary analysis of cost comparison of std PCs vs cloud-based DaaS. The numbers are impressive, approximately 35% year 1 and 15% overall over 4 years.
With the price of DaaS continuing to decrease*, and the fact that moving to DaaS is a move to the cloud for a non-differentiating IT function should make this a no-brainer for any company.
*The $50 month shown is a decent price for everything included in the model ($300 thinclient, etc.); a great price would be about 10% less.
** If instead of buying thin clients, the model was geared to extending the life of existing PCs and re-using them as thin clients under an existing Microsoft SA agreement, the all-in price would be in the $30/user/month category.
*** AND if the scenario were to include Google Apps running on Linux clients, pricing could be sub $25/user/month and would also eliminate MS SA costs.
